Grounded in our philosophy, "The Quest for the Original," we developed our first single malt Japanese whisky, "SHINDO EXPERIMENTAL 01," in 2025 — an expression of our commitment to creating the very best we can as challengers.
Building upon that foundation, we further deepened our focus and dedication to craftsmanship, giving rise to "SHINDO EXPERIMENTAL for CORES." As its name suggests, this series is dedicated to true whisky enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into our pursuit of originality and the evolution of our craft.
Guided by these two principles, we developed CORES.02.
At Shindo Distillery, where the philosophy "The Classic, Reimagined by Shindo" serves as a guiding concept, this bottling marks our first official peated expression. Vatting peated whisky is one of the long-standing traditions in the whisky world — a true classic approach. Within that framework, we sought to express "Shindo's originality" by blending the milky, fatty, and long sweet finish that defines our new make spirit with the rich smokiness of peat — embodying the coexistence of "the classical and the Shindo way."
The final composition consists of : 67% peated bourbon cask, 15% non-peated bourbon cask, 13% new Mizunara cask, 3% Cognac cask, and 2% Oloroso sherry cask.
The result is a whisky that opens with elegant smokiness and depth from the peat, complemented by the brightness of bourbon casks. On the finish, you'll find the heavy sweetness and long-lasting aftertaste that are hallmarks of Shindo's spirit. To bridge the gap between the smoky top notes and the sweet finish, we added Mizunara casks for their gentle sweet-spicy aroma, enhancing mid-palate volume. A touch of Oloroso sherry enriches the body, while a small portion of Cognac cask rounds the finish beautifully.
CORES.02 harmoniously intertwines peat's robust smokiness with the lactone-derived milky, fatty, and toffee-like characteristics of our new make, resulting in a complex yet graceful, multi-layered flavor experience.
